Meet Wendy Oshiro

For Wendy Oshiro, reverse mortgages are more than numbers and loan programs — they are deeply personal.

With over 19 years of specialized experience, national recognition, and a heart rooted in service, Wendy has become one of Hawai‘i’s most trusted guides for seniors exploring the role of home equity in retirement.

Wendy believes that the heart of her work is simple:
Serve people with compassion. Empower them with knowledge. Honor them with aloha.

A Journey Shaped by Family

Wendy’s commitment to this work began long before she became a Certified Reverse Mortgage Professional (CRMP). Years ago, Wendy’s parents suddenly lost their independence, and her family faced complex decisions about care and housing. Without fully understanding their options, she chose to sell her parents’ longtime home — a choice that significantly impacted her parents' quality of life.

After their home was sold, Wendy learned about reverse mortgages. She realized too late that it was a better way to obtain the funds needed to pay for care in their home. A reverse mortgage could have made it possible for her parents to enjoy more years in the home they loved.

That experience led her on a different career path.

Today, Wendy's personal experience fuels her mission: to ensure no customer makes decisions in confusion or uncertainty. She now focuses on educating older home owners and their families so they have the right information and the right guidance. In Wendy, customers will find a caring professional who takes the time listen, answer questions, and provide valuable information and insight which enable them to make sound, well-informed decisions.

Wendy’s Mission

Wendy’s work is rooted in three core values:

  • Aloha

Serving every client with sincerity, kindness, and respect.

  • Clarity

Giving people the information they need — without pressure — so they can make confident decisions about their future.

  • Community

Uplifting Hawai‘i’s kupuna, families, and local organizations through education, service, and connection.

Deep Roots in Community & Aloha

Wendy believes in showing up for her community. She has worked with youth as a math tutor, soccer coach, and Sunday school teacher, and spent 11 years delivering for Meals on Wheels. Today, she continues to support local nonprofits through fundraising and hands-on service.

She has served on boards for community organizations, trade groups, and her church. Wendy currently serves as Secretary of the Honolulu Board of Realtors Leeward Regional Group, is a Director on the Kailua Chamber of Commerce Board, and enjoys greeting alongside her husband at Metro Christian Church.

Her involvement reflects her belief that strong communities are built on connection, service, and shared purpose.

In addition to her work with seniors and families, Wendy enjoys finding ways to bring joy to others. In 2024, she launched Heartmade by Wendy, a small island-inspired cookie and treat business featuring decorated sugar cookies and truffle popcorn. What began as a creative hobby has grown into a meaningful way to support the community, with her creations often contributing to local fundraisers, including events that benefit youth in Hawaii.

She also founded a long-standing professional coffee networking group, bringing people together to build relationships and uplift one another.

When she’s not working or volunteering, you’ll likely find Wendy:

  • Baking treats
  • Hiking island trails
  • Supporting community events
  • Enjoying time with her husband and their beloved dog
